My Sarawak
Travel Cafe (formerly Carpenter Guesthouse) is located at
Carpenter Street together with The Main Bazaar. Its location
is among rows of two-storey shophouses on one of
Kuching's oldest streets (dating back to 1864) and the area is a paradise for
local
food, local scenes, historical places and heaven on earth for
souvenir shoppers and bargain hunters. The handicraft shops
are stacked floor to ceiling high with cultural curios and antiques and
a treasure trove of Iban icons, Bidayuh bric-a-brac and Orang Ulu
ornaments. Even older than the old-fashioned facade of the
shophouses are the antique brassware, ceramics, tribal and ethnic
arts and crafts, woodcarvings, traditional masks, blowpipes,
shields and mementos of the Brooke Raj.
It is also
walking distance of only 5 minutes to the Kuching
Waterfront.
